Funding

The MFB is a fully funded organisation.

As a result of recommendations made by the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission the Victorian Government passed the Fire Service Property Levy Act 2012 which from 1 July 2013 changes the source of funding of the MFB.

From 1 July 2013 the Total amount of funding for MFB is determined by the Minister of which:

  • 87.5 per cent will come from a levy under the Property Services Levy Act 2012
  • 12.5 per cent from the Victorian State Government Consolidated Fund

The approved contribution for the 2016-17 financial year is $346,363,000.
