23 Dec 2012
Four people, including a toddler, have been forced to flee after fire ripped through their Heathmont home.

The single storey weatherboard house in Royal Ave Heathmont was severely damaged by fire.

Fire crews arrived just after 2:30pm on December 23 and found the house fully involved and at risk of spreading to adjoining properties due to the intensity of the fire.

Hot and windy conditions hampered fire fighting operations and embers from the fire put premises down wind of the fire at risk. The houses on each side were damaged by heat and attending crews prevented the fire spreading further.

The MFB was supported by crews from the CFA, with 11 appliances in total on scene. The occupants evacuated themselves from the house without injury.
The fire has been deemed to be accidental.
