Albion house fire

22 Jun 2015
A male occupant had a lucky escape from his burning home on Saturday morning, thanks to his working smoke alarm.

The man had fallen asleep on the couch and was woken up by the sounding smoke alarm. On evacuating the house, he alerted neighbours who rang 000.

MFB firefighters were quickly on scene and found the single-storey, weatherboard house totally involved in fire and worked hard to successfully protect homes on both sides, which were threatened by the fire.

The male occupant was transported to hospital with minor smoke inhalation and shock.

The home and its contents were destroyed by fire and the integrity of the remaining structure will be checked by the council building surveyor in daylight hours.

The fire took 30 minutes to bring under control and the cause is yet to be confirmed.
