01 Oct 2015
Firefighters battled a large blaze at an Altona Meadows home yesterday afternoon.

Crews were called to the Hosie Street property about 4.40pm and found the house fully alight.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

There were no occupants at home when the first units arrived.

The rear portion of the home has been completely destroyed and the damage bill is expected to exceed $200,000.

Fire investigators have determined the fire was caused by an unspecified electrical fault in the washing machine in the laundry. MFB reminds people to maintain their appliances and ensure their smoke alarms are working.
