09 Feb 2014
An Altona home has been destroyed in a suspicious fire overnight.

Fire crews were called to the Rose Street home in Altona just after 11pm.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find the single storey brick unit totally involved in fire and neighbours attempting to extinguish it. This unoccupied unit has been destroyed by fire with the roof collapsing on the property.

A neighbouring wooden house was threatened by fire and an aggressive attack on the protection of this property was successful (with minimal scorching).

Two other units at the rear were also threatened by fire and their occupants were safely evacuated.

The council building surveyor will be attending to check the structural integrity of the unit tomorrow.

The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious and police will investigate.
