31 Oct 2015
A bakery and fruit shop were damaged by fire in Balwyn North overnight.

MFB crews were called to the shopping strip on Doncaster Road about1.30am.
On arrival crews found the shop was heavily smoke logged, with flames issuing from the roof.

MFB crews wearing breathing apparatus entered to attack the fire internally, two aerial appliances were also deployed to gain access and attack the fire in the roof areas.
During fire fighting activities internal collapse of the building floors required crews to withdraw.
An early estimate of damage to the building is approximately $300,000.
Adjoining shops were entered by crews to check for fire extension. The fire was given an under control status in one hour.
MFB appliances are setup in Doncaster Rd, Balwyn North and will remain there for most of the morning, motorists will need to be aware of MFB resources in the area.
