Crews from northern zone responded to a call at an accommodation unit In Bundoora.

On arrival, crews found smoke issuing from the top floor of a three storey brick building and escalated the response.

Wearing breathing apparatus in the heavily smoke logged building, crews quickly identified the area of origin, however the fire had entered the roof space and was rapidly spreading.

Using ceiling hooks to access the roof space, crews were able utilise the installed hydrant system and high pressure hose reels and stopped the fire spreading to adjoining wings.

The fire was brought under control in 40 minutes. There were no occupants in the building at the time, however a search of the fire affected areas was conducted.

It appears that the fire was caused by a faulty bar fridge.
