Bedroom scorched after mattress fire McKinnon

Crews have battled a house fire in McKinnon this afternoon.

MFB responded to a call for a mattress fire on Capitol Avenue about 2pm.

The fire created a large volume of smoke which filled the building. The occupants evacuated safely to the backyard.  The fire was contained to the bedroom; however there was heavy smoke logging to the remainder of the house.

Fire damage was confined to the bedroom with smoke damage to the remainder of the residence

MFB firefighters donned breathing apparatus to enter the house and used a Positive Pressure Fan to remove smoke from the house.

The fire was quickly brought under control in five minutes, damage is estimated at $10,000.

Victoria Police were requested to attend to assist with traffic control in the area.
