11 Nov 2019
More than 30 MFB firefighters were called to a single storey house in Burwood after it caught alight at around 7pm this evening.

A number of Triple Zero (000) calls were received, and additional appliances were responded.

When initial crews arrived to the Fairleigh Avenue property just seven minutes later the firefighters found the house substantially alight, with fire at the rear of the property penetrating the roof space.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the rear of the building.

Crews managed to get the blaze under control within half an hour.

At this stage it’s not clear what caused the fire to start, but investigations will commence as soon as the area has been made safe.

At the peak of the fire there were seven firefighting appliances on scene including an aerial unit and a rescue, in addition to three other units.

Firefighters are also being supported by Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics.
