Box Hill Girl Guides hall fire

back to list
12 Aug 2010
Fire extensively damaged a former Scout and Girl Guides hall in Box Hill this morning.

The blaze was reported shortly before 3am with strong winds and freezing rain making firefighting efforts difficult. Extra precautions were taken due to the presence of asbestos in the building and fallen live power lines also caused some problems for fire crews.

The front part of the ā€œLā€ shaped structure was destroyed with the remainder being damaged by heat, smoke and water. The fire took 40 minutes to bring under control. The cause has been deemed suspicious.
