Brass factory workers burned in overnight blaze

Workers were evacuated from a Highett factory overnight after a fire.

Crews were called to the Wickham Road brass factory at 9.46pm.

A fault occurred in a furnace in a brass foundry causing a minor fire and injuring two workers.

The injuries were minor and were treated by ambulance then transported to hospital.

The fire was deemed under control very quickly.

Fire crews remained on scene for some time while the furnace was made safe.

The incident is being investigated by Worksafe.
