More than a dozen firefighters responded to a fire in Melbourne’s CBD on Saturday night.

MFB crews responded to the property on Gallaghers Pl at 5:45pm after reports of smoke coming from the multi-storey building.

Upon arrival firefighters found a 50 year old male suffering from smoke inhalation and quickly placed him the care of Ambulance Victoria. Wearing breathing apparatus crews conducted an internal search of the building for additional occupants. Thankfully no one else was inside at the time.

The fire involved a pile of rubbish which was located near a stairwell. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and bring the fire under control in less than 15 minutes.

The building was smoke logged and firefighters remained on scene to fully ventilate the premise.

Victoria Police also assisted MFB at the scene.
