back to list
27 Sep 2015
Police will investigate a suspicious fire at a disused campus in Maidstone over the weekend.

Several phone calls were received for smoke in the general area of Williamson Road shortly after midday yesterday.

Approaching MFB Crews requested the response be upgraded due to the amount of smoke in the area.

When they arrived they found two grass fires alight, one of which had spread into an abandoned two storey building.

The fire was contained to the first floor of the 25 metre by 15 metre disused Student Accommodation building and extinguished by MFB Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus.

Due to the age of the building, asbestos decontamination procedures were implemented.

The fire was brought under control in 21 minutes.

The fire has been declared suspicious and Victoria Police notified to attend.
