28 Sep 2011
Material stored in Burwood East home has contributed to a fire causing severe damage to several bedrooms.

MFB attended a house fire in Benwrrin Dve/Bettina St in Burwood East just after 5pm yesterday.
On arrival, fire fighters were confronted with a fire in a single storey brick veneer house of approximately 18 squares.  The fire was contained to two bedrooms and a hallway in the rear of the premises including a large section of the roof space. The rooms and contents plus a large section of the roof area have been severely damaged by fire while the remainder of the premises has been damaged by heat and smoke.  A large amount of material stored within the premises contributed to the intensity of the fire.

Smoke alarms activated and alerted the four occupants who self evacuated without injury and firefighters managed to control the fire in 18 minutes. Fire duty was in place overnight.

MFB Fire Investigation Unit will attend to establish a cause.

Four pumpers and 16 firefighters attended the scene, along with one rescue unit, one aerial unit and the breathing apparatus support crew.
