Car crash ruptures Hampton gas main

MFB firefighters were called to assist after a car collided with a gas main on Ludstone Street in Hampton just before 6pm this evening.

The vehicle’s driver was thankfully unharmed, but a gas main was ruptured in the crash resulting in a high pressure leak.  

Residents in nearby homes have been evacuated for their safety and Ludstone Street has been blocked off by Victoria Police,

Firefighters on scene dispersed the gas using hose lines and worked to isolate the leak with the assistance of the gas utilities company.

Three crews managed to get the incident under control within 15 minutes of the first call to Triple Zero (000).
