20 Dec 2018
MFB firefighters were responded to a fire in a car park at Chadstone Shopping Centre at 1:38pm.

Twelve MFB appliances and two Commander units were responded to the fire.

The fire and smoke affected multiple vehicles in the car park.

More than 40 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to contain the blaze. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at 2:27pm.

There was a controlled partial evacuation of the shopping centre due to the smoke. The Eastern side of the shopping centre is still operational.

Crews are currently working to ventilate the car park and area and are conducting air monitoring. It is expected firefighters will remain on scene for some time.

At this stage the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. MFB's specialist fire investigation unit is still investigating the incident.

Community are asked to aviod the area and ensure the roads are clear so emergency services can respond.

Firefighters are working with Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria at the scene.
