06 Oct 2019
Approximately 35 firefighters have responded to a house fire on Hawthorn Road in Caulfield, following multiple Triple Zero (000) calls received just after 3:45pm.

MFB firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes and found the home fully involved in the blaze.

Crews conducted a preliminary search of the house to ensure no occupants remained inside, but were forced to withdraw due to a collapsing roof.

An additional search did not locate anyone inside the building.

Firefighters commenced an external and internal attack on the blaze to contain it to the main house.

The fire was declared under control at 4:30pm, but the incident has caused traffic disruptions.

Hawthorn Road has been blocked off in both directions and tram services in the area have been affected.

The public is advised to avoid the area where possible, while emergency crews respond.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are assisting on scene.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
