20 Apr 2015
Crews battled a shed fire in Niddrie overnight.

At 7pm, MFB firefighters received a call from a neighbour for a shed fire in the property to the rear of theirs on Nolan Street.

The caller’s husband went to check on the elderly residents of the address.  When firefighters arrived they found a 10 by 20 metre garage well involved in fire.

The crews requested further resources to assist at the fire.  The crews had difficulty accessing hydrants close to the fire and also they had difficulty gaining access to the garage due to a number of vehicles in and around the garage.

Firefighters donned Breathing Apparatus while fighting the fire, there were also reports that the building contained asbestos.

The fire was declared under control after 18 minutes. At this stage the cause has not been determined.

Ambulance Victoria were requested to attend to check on the female resident as firefighters were concerned she may be suffering smoke inhalation.
