A suspicious fire has engulfed an empty house on Yarrinup Avenue in Chadstone this morning.

Emergency dispatchers received several calls to Triple Zero (000) alerting them to the fire just after 4am on Tuesday morning.

MFB Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes of receiving the first emergency call and found flames, smoke and embers emitting from the roof of the single storey brick house.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked quickly to contain the large fire and stop its spread to neighbouring properties.

Although the fire was large it took a team of about 30 firefighters just half an hour to bring it under control.

Despite the hard work of crews, the house has been all-but destroyed by the fire, and the roof has collapsed.

Thankfully there were no injuries as a result of this incident. A community advice message was distributed due to a large amount of smoke in the surrounding area.

An initial investigation by MFB firefighters has determined that the fire was suspicious, and the scene has been handed over to Victoria Police for further analysis.

At the height of the blaze MFB had nine firefighting appliances at the scene.
