21 Apr 2015
Fire spread through the roof of a Maribyrnong home last night.

Just before 7pm, MFB crews were called to a chimney fire in a weatherboard house.  The occupants were attempting to extinguish the fire themselves.

When firefighters arrived they found the fire had taken hold and called for additional appliances to assist. Crews were wearing Breathing Apparatus while fighting the fire.

Firefighting vehicles had trouble reaching the fire due to narrow roads with vehicles parked along them.

The fire has been contained to a room measuring five by six metres at the rear of the premises and spread from a chimney flue into the structure.

Firefighters also checked the roof space to ensure the fire has been contained.

The fire was declared Under Control after 30 minutes.
