MFB firefighters spent the early hours of the morning battling a factory fire in Clifton Hill.

Crews were called to the Council Street premises shortly before 6am and arrived within six minutes to find the back of a factory ablaze.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus forced entry to the factory to search for occupants and fight the fire from within.

They found that the fire had penetrated the roof and floor space.

It took 24 firefighters a little over 40 minutes to get the fire under control. Crews remain on scene ensuring there are no hotspots but are expected to return to the station shortly.
