24 Dec 2018
A fire that is believed to have started in an evaporative cooling unit has taken hold of the roof of a home on Paxton Street in Malvern East.

MFB Firefighters were called to the two storey home at 7:20pm to find black smoke and flames issuing from the roof following several calls to Triple Zero (000) from concerned neighbours.

Approximately 24 fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus worked quickly and managed to get the fire under control in just 24 minutes.

Crews at the scene are continuing to extinguish the fire, and firefighters are using tarps in a bid to protect the home from further water damage.

Their efforts ensured the fire damage has been confined to the roof space, with only water damage extending to the lower floor.

Thankfully there are no reports of injury.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are at the scene assisting MFB.
