Crane Fire in West Melbourne

A fire that broke out in the engine area of a crane has been extinguished thanks to the quick work of firefighters.

MFB crews were called to the docking area in West Melbourne just before 8am and were met with smoke issuing from a crane suspended approximately 40 meters in the air.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus made their way to the source of the fire and were able to contain it from spreading any further.

There was no one trapped in the crane and no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by MFB’s Fire Investigation Team.
