09 Dec 2017
Firefighters were busy battling a blaze at a restaurant in Coburg overnight after a number of community members called triple zero.

Crews reached the Sydney Road premises in just five minutes and on arrival found flames and thick black smoke arising from the rear of a 20x 10 metre structure.

Despite difficulties with access to the building, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises to conduct a search for occupants, and locate the source of the fire.

A huge effort by 24 firefighters ensured the fire was deemed under control in only 20 minutes and the damage was contained to a dining/courtyard area.

MFB Fire Investigation teams will attend the incident today to determine the cause, and firefighting crews are expected to remain on scene until late this morning.

Sydney Road remains open with minimal disruption to traffic.
