MFB crews have made quick work of a fire on a ninth floor balcony at a building on Blanche Street in Preston.

Initial crews from Preston fire station were called to attend shortly before 10:15am and arrived on scene in just over three minutes after an air conditioning unit caught fire.

The response was escalated after crews wearing breathing apparatus made their way to the ninth floor and were met with visible smoke. At the peak of the blaze there were eight firefighting appliances on scene.

Thankfully all building occupants have evacuated safely and there are no reports of injuries.

Hard work from the firefighters ensured the fire was brought under control within just 13 minutes, but the building was heavily smoke logged.

Crews used positive pressure fans to rid the building of smoke.

Ambulance Victoria paramedics and Victoria Police are on scene assisting firefighters.
