MFB firefighters were called to a property on Kiers Court in Viewbank following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) shortly after 7am.

A fire had spread quickly from a garage on the property to the two storey house, which was almost fully engulfed by the blaze.

The initial responding appliances arrived in just six minutes, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began their attack.

Due to the intensity of the fire, additional resources were responded and at the height of the blaze seven MFB appliances and approximately 26 firefighters worked together to douse the flames.

Crews fought hard to contain the fire, which had penetrated the property’s roof space. Their hard work ensured the fire did not spread to the surrounding properties.

After almost an hour of aggressive firefighting efforts, crews managed to bring the blaze under control just after 8am.

Thankfully, the occupants managed to evacuate the house.

Due to fears of asbestos at the scene firefighters have implemented additional safety precautions.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are on scene assisting, and firefighters are expected to remain on scene for some time.

At this stage the cause of the fire is not known. MFB’s specialist Fire Investigation unit will determine the cause of the blaze once the scene has been made safe.
