Lucky escape for West Footscray resident

An occupant has had a lucky escape from a unit which had caught fire on Broad Street in West Footscray at around 5:30am this morning.

MFB received a number of Triple Zero (000) calls from concerned community members, stating that a smoke alarm was operating and a person was still inside the unit.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus retrieved an occupant from the home, he is now in the care of Ambulance Victoria Paramedics.

At this stage, the cause of the blaze is unknown, but will be investigated as soon as it is safe to do so.

Victoria Police are also on scene assisting MFB as the incident has been deemed as suspicous.
