Firefighters have saved neighbouring properties after a fire broke out at a collision repair shop on Mt Alexander Road in Moonee Ponds overnight.

Following a number of calls to Triple Zero (000) crews were called to the scene just after midnight, and arrived to find the lower level of the two storey building was on fire.

Wearing breathing apparatus, approximately 20 firefighters on scene had to cut through roller doors and force their way through windows to make access to the fire and search the property for occupants.

Thankfully, a thorough search of the premises found there was no one inside at the time of the blaze.

An aggressive internal attack ensured firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene assisting MFB for this incident.

At this stage the cause of the blaze is unknown.
