15 Jul 2019
Firefighters have quickly stopped the spread of a house fire in the garage of a Reservoir home last night.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Vigeons Rd just after 8pm following reports of smoke coming from the living room window.

The occupants of the home had self-evacuated and crews arrived to find one person using a garden hose to spray the flames.

Firefighters attacked the fire, stopping the blaze from spreading to the remainder of the house.

Swift work by crews ensured the fire was under control by 8.30pm, just 10 minutes after their arrival on scene.

A smoke alarm in the garage had activated during the incident but concerningly, firefighters did not find any other smoke alarms installed in the house.

It’s believed the fire was sparked by a short circuit involving a number of batteries on a shelf in the garage.
