Crews tackle suspicious Ascot Vale unit fire

Firefighters were called to the Wingate Ave, Ascot Vale property at 3:14pm following several Triple Zero calls for smoke issuing from a block of units.

On arrival, crews found a ground floor unit well involved in fire. 

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus implemented an aggressive attack on the fire and evacuated other occupants of the building.

Ambulance Victoria were in attendance and treated a number of residents. Victoria Police were also on scene.

The fire was declared Under Control after 50 minutes, with one of the units severly damaged by the blaze.

The incident has been deemed suspicious and the cause will be investigated by Victoria Police.
