Firefighters in breathing apparatus conducted a search confirming that no occupants were inside and fortunately the sole occupant had safely self-evacuated

Just before 4pm this afternoon MFB received calls  to a single storey weatherboard home in Ferguson Street, Brighton East.

On arrival MFB crews found the fire well involved at the rear of the property and had taken hold within the roofspace.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus conducted a search confirming that no occupants were inside, and fortunately the sole occupant had safely self-evacuated earlier.

The fire took thirty minutes to bring under control and the local council Building Surveyor has been requested to attend due to structural integrity concerns.

The home is no longer habitable due to the fire, and the occupant will be required to seek alternative accommodation.

The cause is unknown and Fire Investigators will be attending.

Eight appliances and over twenty five firefighters tackled the blaze.
