Deceased person found in Preston unit fire

MFB firefighters were called to the property in Tyler Street, Preston just before 3:00pm following multiple reports of a unit on fire.

Crews arrived on scene within six minutes to discover a unit in a block of four totally involved in fire, with smoke and flames visible.

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus implemented an aggressive attack on the fire, but were hampered by live power present at the property.

Unfortunately a deceased person was found following an initial search of the property.

Crews inacted asbestos procedures and the blaze was declared under control after 22 minutes.

The cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated by MFB fire investigators and Victoria Police.
