An old church has been destroyed in a suspicious attack overnight.

Firefighters were called to the abandoned church on Miles Street in Deer Park at 2.30am.

On arrival they found the church, measuring approximately five by eight metres, entirely consumed by flames.

As the roof had collapsed into the building, firefighters attacked the fire from the outside.

The fire was deemed under control at 2.55am and has been deemed suspicious.

Seven appliances, including CFA, attended the incident.
