More than 60 firefighters are currently battling a large blaze at a Footscray Shopping Centre.
MFB crews received numerous calls via Triple Zero (000) just after 6am after smoke was seen issuing from the Nicholson St complex.
It appears the fire began in the cool room area of the premises and quickly took hold, engulfing the building.
It's believed no one was inside at the time.
Trams have been stopped at Droop street and there are a number of road closures in the area including Donald, Barkly, Hopkins and Ryan streets.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area.
Residents in nearby suburbs are advised to close their windows and doors as there is smoke hovering in the area.
