EASTERN HILL RETURNS TO NORMAL OPERATIONS

MFB’s Eastern Hill complex will return to normal operations this weekend with firefighters back to the station on Saturday (17 Dec) and office staff returning on Monday (19 Dec).

The MFB headquarters was closed following a diesel leak on 8 December. After cleaning and restoration work as well as a stringent health and safety checks as well as a personal comfort testing regime, clearances to reopen were received this afternoon.

“All tests have been returned and are all well within safety thresholds. Odour testing was conducted this morning (15 Dec) and it has been found that the conditions in the complex are suitable for reoccupation,” said MFB CEO Nick Easy.

“We will continue to monitor the complex, but we anticipate no further issues. It will be good to return to normal business.

“Under unusual circumstances, our firefighters have been able to provide their high standard of fire and emergency service by operating from outer CBD stations during this short period. Critical administrative support functions also continued throughout the event.”

Mr Easy said he was disappointed that the MFB’s regular Friday Firefighting Display for children was cancelled but said it was both rare and unavoidable.
