Eighty evacuated as gas leak shuts down Raglan Street in Preston

MFB are on scene at a gas leak in Raglan St Preston.

A factory has been evacuated in conjunction with Victoria Police with further businesses in the area to be evacuated in a staged process.

Power has been isolated in the area to avoid ignition sources.

The gas company are on scene and attempting to isolate the gas leak.

The incident was declared under control in 53 minutes, however the leak has not been isolated yet and crews will remain on scene until gas is isolated and it is declared safe.

Neighbouring businesses have been required to shut down their factories to further eliminate ignition sources.

UPDATE

At 2:03pm the gas was isolated external to the premise and situation made safe.  Crews are testing for gas levels in the factory and external areas. 

Those evacuated are beginning to be allowed to return to their workplaces.  Fire crews will begin to return to their stations.
