MFB specialist rescue crews were called to assist after a truck versus tram collision this morning in Parkville.

The incident occurred on Elliot Avenue just after 8am.

MFB assisted ambulance with care of multiple patients after a truck carrying soil collided with the tram.

There were approximately 20 patients with relatively minor injuries.

The truck ended up on its side, leaking diesel fuel so crews worked to stop the leak and clean up the spill.

The incident forced the derailment of the tram, so Yarra Trams heavy maintenance will attend to put the tram back on its tracks.  The road may be closed for several hours.

Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police are also on scene.
