Escalator fire at Melbourne Central

MFB firefighters have extinguished a fire which broke out in Melbourne Central this morning.

Crews were called to level two of the complex on Latrobe Street just after 6am following an escalator fire.

Approximately 20 people were evacuated as a safety precaution while firefighters fought the blaze and made the area safe.

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to ensure all hot spots were fully extinguished before leaving the scene.
