07 Jun 2016
A fire at a Richmond substation has caused power outages and delays for commuters this evening.

Firefighters attended the Mary Street Richmond Electrical Terminal Station at 4.12pm after several calls were received for an explosion and fire. The explosion was also heard at the MFB Training Complex in Burnley Street.

At this stage appliances are standing by with foam lines, waiting for the electrical authority to isolate power to the transformer.

There is approximately 1000 litres of oil contained within the transformer, which is on fire. This fire can’t be attacked until it is confirmed that the power has been isolated.

MFB has three crews on scene awaiting the power isolation.

The incident has affected trains on the Alamein, Belgrave, Lilydale and Glen Waverley lines.
