Factory fire in South Melbourne

Crews were called to a fire at a two-storey factory in Ferrars St just after 6:00am this morning.

Firefighters arrived in four minutes, with two teams in Breathing Apparatus entering the 20 by 40 metre building.

Crews attacked the fire on the building's second floor and conducted a search to confirm the factory was empty.

The fire had also spread into the roof space.

The blaze was brought under control at 6:44am.

Its cause is yet to be determined.

Police and ambulance crews also assisted on scene.
