Factory fire in St Kilda

Crews were called to a fire at a double-storey disused factory on Greeves St at 7:46am this morning.

Firefighters intially had difficultly gaining access, with the fire located at the rear of the building's top floor.

The blaze was brought under control at 8:57am.

Several buildings of flats surrounding the factory were evacuated as a precaution.

A community warning was issued for smoke in the area.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and MFB's Fire Investigators will attend.

An occupant of the building was treated on scene by Ambulance crews and transported to hospital.
