MFB firefighters are currently in Bentleigh East following a house fire this morning.

Crews were called to the single storey house in East Boundary Road about 9.15am following numerous calls to Triple Zero (000).

Firefighters arrived to find the house up in flames.

The ferocity of the blaze had melted roller shutters, making access difficult.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the house and evacuated an unconscious woman.

Firefighters and Ambulance Victoria Paramedics administered CPR but were sadly unable to revive her.

She died at the scene.

Firefighters rescued a number of pet birds from inside the house, while a passer-by took a dog to the local vet.

No one else was inside the house at the time and the fire has now been extinguished.

Victoria Police will investigate the cause of the fire and prepare a report for the Coroner.
