21 Jul 2014
A fridge fire has severely damaged a Meadow Heights home over the weekend.

Fire crews were called to the Buchan Street home at 10.46pm on Saturday.

Several calls from the public were received and firefighters arrived to find the house well alight.

The fire was brought under control in less than 10 minutes by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus.

The elderly couple were not home when the fire started but returned home when alerted by a neighbour.  The lady was treated at the scene for shock.

MFB Fire Investigators have identified the cause of the blaze was an electrical malfunction in the fridge.

The damage is estimated to be approximately $200,000.

There were no reports of any injuries.
