MFB firefighters have extinguished a fire which ripped through a Kew music shop this afternoon.

Passers-by raised the alarm after spotting the Burke Road premises ablaze about 2.40pm.

Crews arrived on scene to find a fire measuring 30 x 15 metres in a rear store room and smoke billowing from the building.

It took 12  firefighters in breathing apparatus around half an hour to extinguish the blaze.

Three staff members were safely evacuated from the building.

Firefighters remain on scene to monitor the residual temperature in the roof space.

The cause of the blaze is believed to be a faulty light.
