Fire at Flemington Racecourse

MFB crews from Ascot Vale & Footscray were quickly onscene when the fire was reported by staff at Flemington Racecourse.

Shortly after the installed sprinklers activated and reduced the fire’s intensity. Due to the smoke levels additional crews quickly responded from nearby stations.

The fire also involved cleaning products which has required crews to wear breathing apparatus. Firefighters contained the fire to the area of origin thus reducing the damage bill.

No injuries have been sustained and MFB will make the scene safe regards the disposal of the affected cleaning chemicals. Crews were on scene for up to 90 mins checking for fire spread and eliminating smoke logging to affected areas. The cause has been linked to a clothes dryer. No estimate of damage cost has yet been placed on the fire scene.
