28 Jun 2017
A smoke warning was issued after a fire at a Heathmont pizza shop overnight.

Just before 10.30pm, MFB received several calls for the incident on Canterbury Road after smoke was seen issuing and windows heard breaking in a pizza shop, located next to a supermarket.

MFB firefighters arrived to find the 20 x 50 metre restaurant smoking and fire towards the rear of the building.

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus attacked the fire inside the building, knocking it down. The adjoining supermarket was checked to ensure there was no penetration of fire into the building.

The damage to the building has been limited to approximately 50% of the structure due to the swift work of MFB and CFA firefighters. Due to the nature of the fire the remainder of the building has suffered smoke and heat damage.

The fire was declared under control after 32 minutes, a Community Warning has been issued for the direct area advising residents of smoke in the area and that traffic will be disrupted for a period of time.

The cause is unknown at this stage

Victoria Police were on scene and Ambulance Victoria monitored firefighters as they removed their breathing apparatus.
