MFB Fire Investigators remain on scene awaiting the arrival of heavy machine to assist in clearing the collapsed roof following the fire and making the area safe.

The large fire occurred in the single storey restaurant (30 x 20m) in the early hours this morning and on arrival found the restaurant fully involved and soon after 90% of the tiled roof had collapsed.  Early concerns were raised for the nearby two storey Clarion Motel which was partially evacuated. Fortunately MFB firefighters were able to contain the fire in 40 minutes and alleviate any threat to this exposure.  However the premises has been destroyed, with only the exterior walls remaining.
