Fire at Panel Beaters

back to list
14 Jun 2011
Neighbors awoke to explosions when fire engulfed the rear of a panel beaters business this morning.

Date: June 14, 2011
Time: 03:45 hours
Call Number: 4001

Address: New Street, Brighton.

Several callers who rung 000 mentioned that it was an automotive repair business and it was well alight.

When crews from Ormond & Highett were approaching the scene, heavy smoke and visible flames determined the need for additional resouces to be dispatched.

It has took some 40 mins to ensure the fire was contained to the rear of the metal building.

Given the chemicals inside which include paints, thinners, plus plastics from car parts burning has caused thick smoke to drift across homes in the vicinity.

MFB personnel have advised residents to keep external doors and windows closed and remain indoors until the fire is further extinguished and the smoke plume is greatly reduced.

Attending Appliances: 8

Number of firefighters: 28

Officer in charge: Commander Dave McCurdy
