back to list
24 Jul 2015
It took 50 MFB firefighters almost two hours to bring the fire at a tyre recycling plant under control this morning

The blaze in Dohertys Road, Laverton North was reported shortly after midnight and involved a large pile of shredded rubber.  The fire was deep-seated and covered an area of 80 to 100m2.

Even after the surface flames had been extinguished, the fire continued to burn underneath.  A large quantity of foam was applied in an attempt to smother the blaze but little headway was gained until on-site heavy machinery was used to pull apart the massive pile.

A Community Warning was issued due to the large amount of smoke being produced.  The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
