Fire at historic Chinese Restaurant in the City

MFB firefighters were called to a fire in the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant on the ground floor of a 4 storey brick and iron building.

Whilst 6 firefighting appliances were on scene within minutes of the fire being reported, it had quickly spread up and engulfed the 3 rd floor, had entered the 4th level and the roof space.

Due to the concern of the structural integrity of the building, firefighters were soon forced to exit the building and commence external firefighting tactics with the assistance of aerial appliances.

The spread of fire was contained in 40 minutes, however, MFB firefighters continue to attempt to extinguish this large fire, and will be on scene throughout the morning.
